En las últimas décadas la reputación de las universidades se ha convertido en un tema de \ncreciente interés para académicos y dirigentes universitarios. Numerosos congresos y \nencuentros profesionales han debatido sobre la reputación para tratar de definir su \nsignificado, identificar sus límites y evaluar las consecuencias para el sector universitario. Este \natractivo camina paralelo con una progresiva producción científica que, si bien es aún escasa, \npromete avanzar en el desarrollo conceptual de la reputación desde una perspectiva \nprofunda y multidisciplinar. \nEn opinión de los expertos, la reputación es la suma de las percepciones que sobre una \ninstitución tienen todos sus grupos de interés. En la práctica, actuaría como un indicador \nsintético de valores intangibles como la confianza, la integridad, la recomendación, la \nlegitimidad y la calidad de una organización. La reputación –sostienen los especialistas– no es \nun activo en poder de la institución, sino una suerte de conocimiento social en virtud del cual \nse concede aceptación o rechazo en función de un supuesto comportamiento. Es, por tanto, \nun recurso estratégico de enorme valor del que nadie quiere –en realidad, nadie puede— \nquedar al margen.
