La monographie du Centre local de développement (CLD) de la Vallée-de-l'Or s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une recherche qualitative sur les CLD, à laquelle participent plusieurs chercheurs de diverses universités du Québec sous la direction de M. Benoît Lévesque (UQAM). L'objectif de cette monographie est de présenter les grandes étapes de l'implantation, le contexte organisationnel et la dynamique locale entourant cette nouvelle structure organisationnelle. Les premières années de vie du CLD ne se sont pas déroulées sans difficulté. Le milieu a reçu plutôt froidement l'annonce de sa création, plusieurs y voyant une ingérence du gouvernement provincial dans la question du développement économique local. La question de son financement a également animé d'âpres débats entre les défenseurs et les opposants du CLD. Cinq ans plus tard, la nouvelle structure semble avoir réussi faire sa niche et à établir sa crédibilité dans le milieu. Sa capacité financière plus imposante, ses réalisations et son apport indéniable à la concertation et à l'animation des acteurs du développement évoluant dans une MRC davantage reconnue par ses clivages que par sa cohésion font en sorte que le CLD est maintenant considéré comme un intervenant incontournable du développement économique et social du territoire. Une nouvelle gouvernance locale dans la gestion du développement centrée sur l'entrepreuneurship collectif et multisectoriel (privé, étatique et communautaire) semble ainsi vouloir s'installer dans la MRC et le CLD-VO a joué et joue toujours un rôle central dans cette transition.
