L’importante quantité de matière organique dans les matières résiduelles québécoises en \nfont une cible de premier choix dans la volonté de valoriser les déchets. Le \ntri-compostage est une des méthodes de valorisation de la matière organique à l’échelle \nd’une communauté. Ce procédé permet le tri de la matière organique contenue dans la \nMR mixte pour ensuite réaliser son compostage. \nUn bioréacteur rotatif initie l’opération de compostage et permet le tri de la matière \norganique. L’objectif de la recherche étant d’optimiser la performance de ce bioréacteur, \nla ventilation, la vitesse de rotation et de la masse de remplissage de cet équipement ont \nété ciblés comme paramètres clé. \nDes essais sur une unité pilote de 2,57 m3 ont été réalisés afin de traiter des matières \nrésiduelles domestiques mixtes et d’évaluer la performance lors de la variation des \nparamètres choisis. Les résultats obtenus n’ont pas permis de raffiner la vitesse de \nrotation ; en revanche, une ventilation d’air chaud a conduit à une augmentation de la \nperte de masse de près de 10 %, ce qui n’a pas été possible avec une ventilation d’air \nfrais. \nAussi, la perte de masse a atteint 16,8% en traitant environ 230 kg par m3 de bioréacteur. \nLe temps de séjour nécessaire pour atteindre la période thermophile a été établi à près \nde 2,4 jours, ce qui correspond à une réduction de 8% par rapport au temps de séjour \nactuel en industrie. \nFinalement, d’éventuels travaux de recherche pourraient être réalisés pour confirmer la \nrelation entre l’échelle réelle et l’unité pilote de même que pour adapter le bioréacteur à \nd’autres technologies de valorisation.
