Abstract
Fernández Sardino (1781-1827) was a committed figure of Spanish journalism spanning almost a quarter of a century (1808-1825) who constantly defended the 1812 Constitution and Constitutional Monarchy. However, Fernando VII’s position and countless betrayals changed Sardino’s opinion of the king, from revered monarch to villain. His disillusion with the monarchy incited him to solicit a providential man who could save Spain, thus revealing the « republican spirit » he held in his heart.
