Abstract
A lo largo de su historia, los festivales de cine han conformado un circuito en el que no solo se exhiben una serie de películas sino que además consiguen acuerdos de distribución y obtienen prestigio, tanto para sus directores como para los países o áreas geográficas en que se producen. El Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) está catalogado hoy en día como uno de los más influyentes, sobre todo por los acuerdos de distribución que ha conseguido para el cine independiente y la importante promoción que supone de cara a conseguir nominaciones o premios en los Oscar. En esta investigación analizamos las doce películas centroamericanas seleccionadas por este festival a lo largo de su historia. En los años 80, y principalmente en el marco de una retrospectiva de cine latinoamericano, se proyectaron películas comprometidas con los movimientos revolucionarios. En la década de 2010, sin embargo, la aparición de dos autores reconocidos en el circuito de festivales como Julio Hernández Cordón y Jayro Bustamante ha ofrecido una imagen diferente del cine centroamericano, cuyo crecimiento futuro parece garantizado gracias a las películas que ya están ayudando a producir algunos de estos festivales, como el de San Sebastián.
