Selon les statistiques de la FAO, treize millions d’hectares de forêts par an ont disparu lors de la dernière décennie. La question de la gestion durable des forêts demeure donc préoccupante, d’où l’intérêt de mener une recherche sur les moyens juridiques d’une gestion durable des ressources forestières, lesquels passent, à notre avis, par l’intégration du principe juridique de la participation du public dans les instruments de règlementation forestière. Notre objectif est de démontrer que la participation du public peut favoriser la gestion durable des forêts puisqu’elle constitue le moyen par excellence d’éducation, d’information, et de conscientisation du public sur l’utilisation rationnelle des ressources forestières, un moyen pour le public de faire valoir ses intérêts dans les processus décisionnels, et par la même occasion, le moyen pour lui de contrôler l’action publique et d’exercer une pression sur les décideurs politiques afin de guider leurs décisions sur la voie du développement durable.
