We staan met elkaar voor de uitdaging om de voedselproductie sterk te verduurzamen,met volop aandacht voor klimaat, biodiversiteit, en verbeterde kwaliteit vanlucht en water. Zo moet Nederland vanuit het Klimaatakkoord de emissies vanbroeikasgassen met 55% reduceren in 2030 t.o.v. 1990, en in 2050 een nettouitstoot hebben van nul. Bovendien zijn we op grond van het akkoord van Montreal(2022) gebonden aan een sterke vergroting van de biodiversiteit. Daarnaast is inhet Nationaal Programma Landelijk Gebied (NPLG) vastgelegd dat 74% van destikstofgevoelige natuur in Nederland moet voldoen aan de Kaderrichtlijn Water.Voor het behalen van deze doelen wordt een grote rol toegeschreven aan demelkveehouderij. Niet alleen omdat de melkveehouderij verantwoordelijk is voor ruimeen derde van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen, stikstofoxiden (NOx) en ammoniak inde Nederlndbouw (CBS, 2023), maar ook omdat de melkveehouderij met 1 miljoenhectare landbouwgrond de grootste grondgebruiker van Nederland is. Hierom heeftde sector een belangrijke rol in het realiseren van onze gemeenschappelijke opgaven.
