Abstract
Í þessarri ritgerð er notast við mannfræðilegt sjónarhorn til að greina sögu, menningu og hefðir tví-sála (e: Two-Spirit) fólksins, hópur fólks innan frumbyggjasamfélaga Norður-Ameríku sem skilgreinir sig sem þriðja kynið eða sem kynafbrigði í sumum þessara samfélaga. Hinsegin rannsóknir í mannfræði verða notaðar til að skilja betur viðmiðunarramma kyn og kynhneigðar innan frumbyggjasamfélaga Norður-Ameríku innan umfangs núverandi bókmennta. Nýlendumál verða rædd vegna víðtækra áhrifa þeirra á samfélög, menningu og hefðir frumbyggja Norður-Ameríku frá landnámi Evrópuþjóða.
