Questa tesi ha avuto come scopo quello di valutare le concentrazioni di tiroxina libera (free-T4) e tireotropina (TSH) in associazione con quelle di fruttosamine sieriche in cagne che presentavano alterazioni del ciclo riproduttivo, in particolare aumento dell’intervallo interestrale e/o ritardo della pubertà e confrontarle con quelle di un gruppo di cagne con cicli normali per verificare un’eventuale associazione dei disturbi riproduttivi con un ipotiroidismo subclinico. Oltre ai dosaggi ormonali sono state eseguite analisi per valutare parametri ematochimici le cui alterazioni sono state associate ad ipotiroidismo come ematocrito, colesterolemia e proteinemia. Sono state coinvolte nello studio 12 femmine, 6 casi e 6 controlli, di età compresa tra 18 e 98 mesi e appartenenti a razze diverse (4 Rough Collie, 4 Labrador Retriever, 2 Golden Retriever e 2 Leonberger). Al momento del prelievo tutti i soggetti si trovavano in fase di anestro. I valori di TSH e fT4 nei sospetti erano nell’intervallo di normalità; inoltre dal confronto dei risultati non sono emerse differenze significative tra casi e controlli nè per questi due ormoni nè per le fruttosamine sieriche, perciò non possiamo affermare che nei casi da noi riportati le alterazioni del ciclo riproduttivo fossero associate a ipofunzionalità della tiroide.
