Abstract
Onlangs verscheen het rapport Het meten van patiëntervaringen in de medisch specialistische zorg: tijd voor een heroriëntatie? als onderdeel van de transparantiemonitor van het NIVEL. Het doel van het rapport was om te onderzoeken wat het meten van patiëntervaringen in ziekenhuizen bijdraagt aan het realiseren van de best passende zorg binnen de medisch specialistische zorg. Het rapport laat zien dat deze bijdrage in de huidige praktijk zeer beperkt is. Zoals de titel van het rapport al suggereert, roept dat bij de auteurs de vraag op of onderzoek naar de ervaringen van patiënten in de toekomst niet anders moet. Het rapport eindigt daarmee met een vraagteken. De conclusies zijn echter zodanig dat dit vraagteken wel weggelaten had kunnen worden. Hieronder draagt Hester van de Bovenkamp bij aan het debat over deze heroriëntatie met een pleidooi voor meer kwalitatief onderzoek.
