L’article met en parallèle les traducteurs médiévaux français et les traductrices féministes canadiennes. Pour cela, l’auteur s’appuie sur cinq points de comparaison. Premièrement, l'appropriation du texte source: de quelle manière les deux groupes de traducteurs, séparés géographiquement et temporellement, l’ont-ils utilisé dans leurs traductions, soit en l'améliorant, en l'adaptant ou en le réorganisant? La quête de légitimité a également été comparée: comment les traducteurs médiévaux ont-ils soulevé la question de la traduction en langue vulgaire face à l'autorité du latin et, à leur tour, comment les traductrices féministes ont-elles cherché à légitimer la voix féminine face au discours patriarcal. Les schémas et le didactisme des préfaces ont constitué un autre point de comparaison, car ils ont été utilisés par les deux groupes, dans leur conception formelle, ou dans leur rôle éducatif. Les interventions dans la langue ont également été observées, avec, d'une part, la création de mots dans la langue vulgaire pour rendre compte des significations latines par les traducteurs médiévaux et, d'autre part, les traductrices féministes, qui essayaient d’effacer les marques sexistes de la langue, en déconstruisant et en reconstruisant les mots. Le dernier point de comparaison, la visibilité du traducteur dans sa traduction, a montré à quel point les deux groupes ont rendu transparente leur présence dans les textes traduits.
