Abstract
Resumen: En este artículo presentamos nuestro proyecto de doctorado en antropología de la salud. El tema central de este concierne los aspectos sociales y culturales de la transfusión de sangre. En la primera parte, exponemos un breve recuento histórico de esta práctica médica y un resumen de la literatura científica (principalmente sociológica y antropológica) sobre la donación y la transfusión de sangre. Tras identificar la ausencia de estudios sobre las implicaciones simbólicas de este procedimiento y sobre el punto de vista de las personas que reciben sangre, planteamos nuestra problemática de investigación. Posteriormente, enumeramos las principales técnicas de la metodología cualitativa que utilizaremos para la recolección y el análisis de los datos en un hospital pediátrico en Montreal (Canada). Por último, presentamos los principales resultados que esta investigación aportará con miras a su aplicación en el medio clínico y comunitario y para el avance de las humanidades médicas. Abstract: In this paper we present our doctoral project in anthropology of health, whose central theme concerns the social and cultural aspects of blood transfusion. We present a brief historical account of this medical practice and a summary of the literature on donation and blood transfusion (mainly sociological and anthropological). We introduce our research problem, after identifying the absence of studies on the identity and symbolic implications of this procedure. We also identified the importance to know the point of view of people who receive blood in a context of cultural diversity. We expound the main techniques we will use in our qualitative methodology. These techniques will be used in order to collect and analyze data in a pediatric hospital in Montreal (Canada). Finally, we present the main results we hope this research will provide for their application in clinical and community environment and for the advancement of medical humanities.
