Abstract
Un equip de recerca de l'Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont (ICP), la Universitat d'Edimburg (Regne Unit), la Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (Brasil) i la Universitat de Toronto (Canadà) han demostrat que el rosegador sud-americà Incamys, un parent fòssil de les xinxilles actuals, tenia una combinació única de característiques endocranials. L'estudi suggereix que aquestes adaptacions són una evidència d'una major agudesa auditiva i del processament de les vocalitzacions d'aquesta espècie. Tal com fan les xinxilles actuals, aquest rosegador de fa 30 milions d'anys ja viuria en grup i els seus membres utilitzarien senyals sonors per comunicar-se.
