Abstract
Le sport de haut niveau est le lieu d'une utilisation extrême du corps qui a des conséquences néfastes sur lui. Afin de comprendre comment ces pratiques sont vécues, nous nous sommes intéressés aux représentations sociales du corps des athlètes de haut niveau. La théorie des représentations sociales (Moscovici, 1961, Doise, 1992) a servi de cadre théorique et méthodologique à notre démarche. Des entretiens semi-directifs et des associations de mots ont été réalisés sur une population de 70 athlètes français et canadiens. A un premier niveau, l'analyse des données a permis de dégager divers modes d'appréhension du vécu du corps, du sport et du dopage. Un second niveau a mis en évidence les principes organisateurs des représentations sociales du corps des athlètes. Ces dernières sont caractérisées par deux notions ambivalentes: la quête d'un plaisir corporel étroitement lié à la souffrance, associée à une tentative d'excéder les limites du corps qui est aussi une recherche du trauma.
