Abstract
Archibald Laidlie arrived in New York City to become the first English-speaking pastor in the Dutch Reformed Churches in America, presiding over the Collegiate Church (1764-1779). He was born in Scotland, studied at the University of Edinburgh, and received his STD from the College of New Jersey in 1770. Laidlie also preached at Pas Flushing, the Netherlands, 1759-1763. The collection contains transcriptions of Laidlie’s letters, a travel diary, and an 18th-century will, with two rolls of microfilm of the Laidlie papers. The remainder of the collection is composed of notes and reference material used by the researcher, Rev. John P. Luidens, which include transcriptions of obituaries and other documentary sources on Laidlie.
