Abstract
Este artículo pretende analizar los impuestos, particularmente los aranceles, en la capitanía de Río de Janeiro. El período estudiado va desde 1580 hasta 1750, desde la unión con España hasta el fin del gobierno de D. João V. En ese momento, el aparato fiscal recibió mucha atención ya que los ingresos de la recaudación de impuestos eran esenciales para el mantenimiento de la madre patria y las colonias, así como para la acumulación de riqueza por parte de los empresarios tanto en la metrópoli como en la colonia. Examinaremos no solo la estructura del sistema de recaudación, sino también los cambios en el proceso tributario a lo largo del tiempo.
