Abstract
Many public agencies are moving toward the implementation of asset management systems. The major driving force is pressure to operate on a business like basis. Accordingly, business practices from the private sector are being utilized. This paper describes the principles and practices of infrastructure asset management in terms of first defining the issues and scope of the process and then providing a general framework for asset management plus an associated component system framework.
