La revista Argumentos. Estudios críticos de la sociedad, de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Unidad Xochimilco, en colaboración con el Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (Clacso), la Facultad de Cultura y Comunicación, de la Universidad Metropolitana para la Educación y el Trabajo (FCCUMET), los periódicos La Jornada (México), Página 12 (Argentina) y Público (España), convocamos al Premio Latinoamericano Miroslava Breach “Sistemas de poder y violencia contra periodistas en América Latina”. La destacada periodista Miroslava Breach Velducea informó, en el transcurso de dos décadas, acerca de la corrupción, los abusos del poder político, la desprotección de los más pobres y especialmente, en sus últimos reportajes, la expansión y las pretensiones políticas de los grupos de narcotraficantes establecidos en Chihuahua. Fue asesinada el 23 de marzo de 2017. El reconocimiento que lleva su nombre ha sido otorgado a los académicos Celia del Palacio y a Alberto J. Olvera por el artículo “Acallar las voces, ocultar la verdad. Violencia contra los periodistas en Veracruz”, que se publica en este número, mismo que busca contribuir a una reflexión que coadyuve a detener la tragedia civilizatoria que, en nuestros países, significa el amordazamiento de periodistas y medios de comunicación.
