Abstract
Le Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, petit épagneul nain Anglais, est actuellement la 3ème race en nombre d inscriptions au LOF et la 1ère des chiens de compagnie. L auteur présente tout d abord la race et ses acteurs pour envisager ensuite différents aspects de sa sélection (programmes d éradication des tares génétiques, choix des reproducteurs ). Dans la seconde partie, les résultats d une enquête réalisée auprès de 41 élevages français de Cavaliers sont exposés. Ils abordent les structures et leurs cheptels, la conduite de l élevage et plusieurs données de gestion technico-économique. Cette étude a permis d évaluer le profil des éleveurs et leur technicité mais aussi les difficultés rencontrées et leurs attentes pour envisager sereinement l avenir de l élevage du Cavalier King Charles en France.
