Abstract

Achieving robust Business-IT alignment (BITA) remains a critical challenge for organizations undergoing digital transformation (DX), hindering their ability to fully capitalize on digital investments. This pilot study, as part of a research-in-progress, investigates the role of BITA in DX and its impact on organizational performance through insights from three in-depth interviews with industry professionals in cybersecurity, consulting, and banking. Findings reveal critical enablers such as strategic governance, cross-functional collaboration, and adaptive alignment mechanisms, highlighting how industry-specific BITA approaches balance structured control and innovation agility. By providing preliminary empirical insights into these alignment strategies, this study advances both academic literature and practice, offering actionable guidance for organizations navigating DX. Building on these initial insights, we are currently collecting case study data across multiple industries to further refine and expand these findings.
