China boosts stocks ahead of WWII celebration

Abstract
China's stock market ticked up for a second day. Bloomberg says the authorities may be propping up Chinese stocks in order to save face before the countries World War II victory celebrations next week. And economist Nick Lardy, senior fellow of the Peterson Institute for International Economics tells China's Central Television that China's stock markets aren't as closely tied to its economy as U.S. markets. The Shanghai Composite Index jumped up almost ten percent Thursday ... it's still down 37 percent from its height in June. China's currency bumped up a quarter of a percent as well, the most it's gained since mid-March. China's central bank cut interest rates this week as well, trying to spur spending. Bloomberg also says The World War II celebrations will be a display of China's military and political might, and'll be a chance for the president to display himself as China's commander in Chief.
