Abstract

This research explores the impact of regionalism in Canada on the program design ofthe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) Prime Time News. An analysis was performed on the content of this program to determine whether or not such regional considerations exist. The content analysis extracted two key variables, Total Segments and Segment Length, to determine if the CBC employed a decision making process imilar to the federal government's de jure and de facto regional allocation process for governmental appointments. The paper concludes that such a decision-making process was not clearly endorsed by the analysis; however, additional statistical analysis illustrates the potential importance of demographic characteristics on program design.
