Abstract
This is a quarter cloth binding with the textured paper covering the boards. This book was written by Rabbi Isaac M. Wise, a very well- known figure in Cincinnati's history and for the American Jewish community. As mentioned in a purchase paper slip that accompanies the book, “The book, on Jewish life in the ager of Herod I, is one of several novels the prolific Wise [1819‐1900] wrote before the age of forty. Some, evidently including this one, were original published as serials in ‘The Isrealite’. His New York Times obituary called him ‘The foremost rabbi in America’”.
