Abstract
Tras la entrada en vigor del Protocolo de Montreal, un tratado diseñado para asegurar la protección de la capa de ozono mediante la reducción de la producción y consumo de agentes responsables de su destrucción, se empezaron a buscar sustancias alternativas que no sólo realizasen las mismas funciones y no fuesen dañinas a la capa, sino que también fuesen económicamente viables. La eficacia de los compuestos era esencial: si es necesario invertir mucha energía en su creación entonces se liberaría mucho dióxido de carbono a la atmósfera, traicionando el propósito de la operación.
