Abstract
Les enjeux associés à la transition à la maternité peuvent être amplifiés pour les femmes immigrantes, en particulier celles vivant dans un contexte de migration temporaire. Ainsi, cette recherche vise à cerner l’expérience périnatale des femmes d’origine latino-américaine qui deviennent mères tout en étant immigrantes temporaires au Québec. Ce sujet est abordé à la lumière du concept de vulnérabilité et de la perspective théorique du parcours de vie. À travers une démarche méthodologique qualitative, l’étude repose sur l’analyse thématique de dix entretiens semi-dirigés menés avec des femmes récemment arrivées à Montréal pour étudier, travailler ou accompagner leurs conjoints. Ces femmes rencontrent des difficultés similaires à celles d'autres mères immigrantes durant le parcours périnatal, tel que la méconnaissance du système de santé, les barrières linguistiques et culturelles, la précarité socio-économique et le manque de réseaux de soutien. Cependant, l'expérience périnatale des immigrantes temporaires est compliquée par les restrictions d'accès aux soins imposées par leur statut, ainsi que par l'incertitude et l'instabilité dues aux conditions temporaires de leur séjour. Affronter cette double transition dans un court laps de temps nécessite une mobilisation accrue de leurs ressources. Ainsi, cette recherche met en évidence que l’interaction des trajectoires migratoires et périnatales peut exacerber la vulnérabilité des femmes immigrantes temporaires. The challenges associated with the transition to motherhood can be magnified for immigrant women, particularly those living in a context of temporary migration. This research aims to delineate the perinatal experience of Latin American women who become mothers while being temporary immigrants in Quebec. This topic is examined through the lens of vulnerability and life course theory. Using a qualitative methodological approach, the study is based on thematic analysis of ten semi-structured interviews conducted with women who have recently arrived in Montreal to study, work, or accompany their partners. These women face challenges similar to those experienced by other immigrant mothers during the perinatal period, such as unfamiliarity with the healthcare system, linguistic and cultural barriers, socioeconomic precariousness, and lack of support networks. However, the perinatal experience of temporary immigrants is further complicated by access restrictions to healthcare imposed by their status, as well as the uncertainty and instability arising from the temporary duration of their residency. Facing this dual transition in a short period requires a heightened mobilization of their resources. Thus, this research highlights that the interplay of migratory and perinatal trajectories can exacerbate the vulnerability of temporary immigrant women.
