El presente proyecto se centra en el diseño de una planta piloto para el crecimiento de microalgas en condiciones heterótrofas (oscuridad), utilizando como sustrato la materia orgánica contenida en el agua residual procedente de una fábrica de procesado de frutas y verduras, cuya localización se encuentra en la localidad de Sanchonuño, en Segovia, en las instalaciones de la fábrica HUERCASA.&#13;\nLa microalga seleccionada, tras una revisión bibliográfica, fue la Chlorella vulgaris.&#13;\nLa planta recibe 2 m3/día de agua residual que se trata en un proceso de cuatro etapas: la primera de tratamiento del agua residual mediante ultrafiltración, que constará de una membrana de fibras huecas de KOCH; la segunda será la correspondiente al cultivo de las microalgas en un biorreactor cerrado con un volumen de 7,9 m3, que constará de un sistema de difusión del aire; la etapa posterior será la de separación de la biomasa, mediante el uso de una centrífuga de discos de ALFA LAVAL, y por último el secado de la biomasa algal, utilizando un secadero en espray fabricado por GEA, para obtener un producto apto para la venta y uso en alimentación animal o fertilizantes.
