Abstract
El període republicà a València, especialment en l'etapa bèl·lica, va ser una època apassionant i plena d'interès. Amb la guerra, es va convertir en una ciutat situada en la rereguarda i allunyada del front, en què els canvis se succeïen imparables. De seguida va arribar la capitalitat de la República amb el desplaçament del govern sencer davant allò que semblava la imminent caiguda de Madrid, el memorable Congrés d'Intel·lectuals Antifeixistes celebrat a l'ajuntament, la presència de reporters internacionals a l'hotel Reina Victòria, un altre hotel –el Metropol– convertit en seu de l'ambaixada soviètica i caserna general del KGB. El període en què València va ser la rereguarda de la Guerra Civil –i els anys previs de la República sense els quals no s'explica– va ser un espai de crisi i violència, però també de llibertat i metamorfosi, un període en què, així mateix, van florir les dones i les seues reivindicacions. És en aquest aspecte allà on volem posar l’atenció a través de la col·lecció de l'arxiu Vidal.
