Abstract

This article focuses on a system of production of domestic hot water in a net zero energy triplex located in Montréal and occupied by 6 persons. This system is assessed and optimized using TRNSYS simulations. Results indicate that it is possible to obtain a renewable fraction (similar to the well-known solar fraction) greater than unity. This is achieved by using 10m2 of evacuated tube solar collectors, two 600 liters storage tanks (including one for selling excess solar to adjacent buildings), a grey water heat recovery unit, and desuperheaters from ground-source heat pumps.
