El Plutos d'Aristòfanes fou representat durant l'arcontat d'Antípatre, 1'any 388 a.C., en competició amb altres quatre comediografs, però la informació disdascàlica res no diu sobre el Hoc obtingut per Aristòfanes ni precisa tampoc en quin dels dos concursos dramàtics atenesos havia estat presentat. Si, en canvi, que aquesta comèdia, la darrera de les conservades senceres, fou encara instruïda sota el nom del propi poeta, mentre que confia la representaci6 del Cocalos i de 1'Eolosic6 al seu fill Araros, amb la intenci6 de recomanar-lo al public, tot i que la Vita Aristophanis (= Test. 1, 56) considera que ja el Plutos fou posada en escena per aquest seu fill.
