La artroplastia de cadera es en cirugía ortopédica uno de los procedimientos más comunes y exitosos para tratar diferentes tipos de patología de la articulación coxofemoral. Existen cambios demográficos que han hecho que las indicaciones de las prótesis de cadera se hayan ampliado y por tanto ha aumento el número de portadores. Este incremento también lleva un aumento de complicaciones entre las que encontramos las fracturas periprotésicas (FPP). Es un estudio observacional, descriptivo, analítico y transversal en el que se revisaron los casos ingresados por fractura periprotésica en nuestro hospital entre el diciembre 2016-septiembre 2021. Se incluyeron 65 pacientes durante este período. Los datos fueron procesados y analizados con el programa software IBM SPSS Statistics versión 20.0 ( SPSS Inc. Chicago EE.UU).Un 26,2% de nuestros pacientes fueron hombres y el 73,8% fueron mujeres con una edad media de 82,37 años y un 55,4 % riesgo ASA III. La artrosis fue la patología por la cual se implantaron la mayoría de las prótesis. Las FPP se produjeron en prótesis primarias en un 93,8% y la mayoría de ellas en el postoperatorio, en un 76,6% cementadas frente al 23,1% que fueron no cementadas. El tipo más frecuente de fractura según la clasificación de Vancouver fue la tipo B con un 63,1%. El tratamiento que más se realizó fue la osteosíntesis en un 98,4%. En el 78,7% se produjo consolidación. El 73,8 % de los pacientes no sufrió ninguna complicación. La mortalidad global fue del 42,2 %. Podemos concluir que en nuestro estudio de manera significativa a mayor edad aumentó mayor mortalidad global, las fracturas tardías aumentaron la mortalidad global y el tratamiento conservador supuso un aumento de la mortalidad.<br /><br />
