Abstract
Since the 1960s, the massification of education and waves of immigration have transformed the educational landscape in many OECD countries. Ordinary classroom teachers now welcome a more linguistically and academically diverse student population, particularly due to the recommendations for rapid inclusion.We studied the differentiation practices implemented by elementary school teachers who accommodate newly arrived students. This study was conducted through comparative education between France, Quebec, and Luxembourg. Our research hypotheses are based on the issues encountered by these teachers. To address these issues, we used two survey tools: a digital questionnaire (252 respondents) and semi-structured interviews (13 interviews). This provided our database for analyzing welcome proposals, training, differentiation practices, and teacher inquiries.Our theoretical approach began with an introduction to the research contexts to lay the groundwork for the comparative study among the three educational systems. The concepts of leading pedagogues and the rise of differentiated pedagogy were then developed.In analyzing the responses collected from teachers, we identified six main areas of differentiation focused primarily on the learning framework. The shift toward an intercultural approach and the consideration of the relational component focusing on the child, their interactions with the teacher, and their peers proved to be essential conditions for success.
