Evaluation and refinement of a micrometeorological method for the measurement of mercury fluxes in natural settings
Bibliographic record
Abstract
An improved flux gradient technique was developed for the measurement of total gaseous mercury fluxes. Preliminary tests indicate that the method can resolve concentration differences on the order of 0.01 ng/m 3. Method components were rigorously tested for acceptability under field and laboratory conditions. Apparatus was chosen to minimize sorption effects. Air samples were pre-dried using Nafion® dryers, excluding the need for water vapour flux corrections. The technique was successfully used to measure fluxes at two background sites in the summer of 2000. At Klages, Ontario measurements were taken in a grassy field overlying mercuriferous shale bedrock. The average flux was 2.9 ± 1.7 ng/m2.h (emission to the atmosphere). At Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec an average flux of 5.1 ± 0.7 ng/m2.h was measured over sand and gravel. Field data indicates that the air-surface exchange of mercury is controlled by several environmental variables, including temperature, humidity, wind speed, substrate concentration and soil moisture.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
