The Shouldice technique is an anatomical tissue repair technique developed in Toronto during the 1950s[1] although it does not begin to publish results until the 1960s. It has been described by a multitude of authors[2]-[4], since it is a complex technique with a multitude of details that must be carried out systematically to obtain the desired results. \n \nThe low rate of recurrences of this technique makes it the gold standard of anatomical repair of the hernia, and has made it one of the most attractive procedures of inguinal hernia[5], [6]. The Toronto group, and the surgeons who perform it, support local anesthesia and sedation as an anesthetic option to this procedure. \n \nThe description of the technique can be divided into two main sections: dissection and repair. The knowledge of each step and each detail in the Shouldice technique is essential to achieve the excellent results published.
