Cette thèse porte sur l’inclusion des savoirs, expériences et perspectives des peuples autochtones dans l’enseignement de la géographie au secondaire au Québec. À l’heure actuelle, bien que l’enseignement du « territoire autochtone » soit prescrit par le programme de géographie au secondaire (Gouvernement du Québec, 2004), les perspectives des peuples autochtones eux-mêmes sont encore marginales dans le traitement qu’en font les programmes et les manuels (Benimmas et Boutouchent, 2019; Déry et Mottet, 2018). Propulsée par les Appels à l’action (2012) et le Rapport final (2015a) de la Commission de vérité et réconciliation du Canada, l’inclusion des perspectives autochtones dans les curriculums canadiens vise autant les élèves autochtones que les élèves non autochtones, mais se heurte à plusieurs défis, notamment un manque de formation et d’accompagnement des enseignant·es. La recherche a pour objectif de développer un matériel de soutien à l’enseignement de la géographie permettant l’inclusion des savoirs, expériences et perspectives des W8banakiak (Abénakis·es) sur le territoire, dans une démarche de collaboration avec la Nation W8banaki. Le matériel de soutien à l’enseignement est destiné aux enseignant·es de géographie oeuvrant dans les écoles fréquentées par les élèves w8banakiak. Conçu et créé à partir des thématiques se dégageant d’entrevues originales réalisées avec des membres de la Nation W8banaki, ainsi que d’une analyse critique du matériel pédagogique utilisé par les enseignant·es dans le contexte de la recherche, le matériel de soutien a fait l’objet d’une validation par des membres de la Nation W8banaki et des enseignant·es de géographie.
