Abstract
The paper is a brief introduction to Canadian history, present-ing basie facts and problems that have shaped Canada. It tries to structuralize the past and helps understand the present events in Canada. Four main threads are identified: the English-French rivalry, evolution of links between Canadian colonies and Great Britain, Canadian-American relations, and relation-ships between white settlers and Aboriginal Peoples.
