De tweede zomertentoonstelling binnen het Bruegelproject van de Vlaamse regering streeft ernaar de raakpunten en breuklijnen te verkennen tussen een intellectuele, verstedelijkte cultuur en een natuurlijke context. Van juli tot oktobber 2001 gingen de artistieke installaties van vijf kunstenaars – Hedwig Brouckaert, Geert Goiris, Ronny Heiremans, Els Vanden Meersch en Katleen Vermeir – een intensieve dialoog aan met de kasteelparken van Groenenberg en Gaasbeek. Hun werken denken na over het tuinenlandschap – de hortus – waarin zij zich inschrijven. Tevens slaan ze de brug naar de wereld erbuiten, die de parken via panoramische zichten ontsluiten of juist uitsluiten. Hortus panoramicus onderzoekt perspectieven en vergezichten, haalt ze binnen in de tuin om vervolgens weer openingen naar buiten toe te laten.
