Abstract
L’état de santé mentale en milieu carcéral est connu pour être sous-évalué, trop peu considéré et insuffisamment traité. Il y a pourtant une surreprésentation des troubles psychopathologiques, avec une gravité variable, chez les hommes détenus par rapport à la population générale. Malgré les initiatives gouvernementales encourageant la réinsertion sociale des contrevenants, du point de vue clinique leur capacité d’actualisation et de responsabilisation face à ce processus est peu soutenue. Les services offerts rencontrent de grandes différences au Québec selon la durée des peines et le lieu d’incarcération. Les études menées sur l’art-thérapie lors du processus de réinsertion et de réhabilitation sociale des hommes détenus vivant avec une problématique de santé mentale au Québec s’avèrent suffisamment concluantes pour inciter à poursuivre la recherche et à élargir l’offre de service.
