Aujourd’hui, les étudiant.e.s internationaux représentent le plus important flux migratoire au
\nQuébec. La littérature scientifique internationale sur leurs expériences migratoires s’est beaucoup
\ndéveloppée, mais le processus de construction de leur parcours migratoire demeure peu documenté,
\nnotamment les facteurs qui influencent leur rétention dans les villes d’étude. Dans le cadre de cette
\nrecherche doctorale, à travers les parcours des étudiants internationaux maghrébins à Montréal,
\nnous proposons une lecture globale du projet migratoire pour étude. Nous mettons l’accent, d’une
\npart, sur l’apport de l’analyse multidimensionnelle des expériences migratoires dans les villes
\nd’accueil. D’autre part, nous apportons une perspective urbaine à la théorie de la carrière
\nmigratoire.
\nMéthodologie : Notre matériel empirique provient des 45 entrevues individuelles menées auprès
\nde 15 nouveaux étudiants internationaux maghrébins à Montréal. Nous avons rencontré chacun
\nd’entre eux 3 fois à l’intervalle de 6 mois. La collecte des données s’est effectuée à l’aide des
\nentrevues semi-dirigées et des cartes mentales.
\nRésultats : Cette thèse porte sur l’expérience urbaine des étudiants internationaux maghrébins qui
\nséjournent à Montréal. En analysant leur vie quotidienne, nous avons identifié leur fréquence de
\nmobilité urbaine et la géographie des espaces qu’ils se sont appropriés à Montréal durant les 12
\nmois de notre terrain. Les étudiants très mobiles et hyper-mobiles ont réussi à explorer plusieurs
\nzones de la ville et à s’approprier plusieurs de ces espaces. Ils ont donc construit un plus large
\ncapital spatial que les étudiants moyennement mobiles et les sédentaires. À partir de cette
\nclassification, nous avons proposé un processus de construction d’un sentiment de chez-soi dans
\nune ville d’accueil. Nous avons diagnostiqué un dédoublement du chez-soi chez les étudiants qui
\navaient un capital spatial et vivaient la mobilité comme une expérience urbaine : leur ville d’origine
\net la ville de migration. Par la suite, en intégrant le rapport à la ville et le chez-soi comme une des
\ncaractéristiques individuelles, nous avons proposé des suites possibles des carrières migratoires(ancrage à Montréal, mobilité pour l’ancrage, retour au « Bled », mobilité inter/nationale et les
\nflottants). Ces profils nous ont permis d’identifier la nature des liens entre les différents facteurs,
\ndont l’expérience urbaine, et la rétention des étudiants internationaux.

\nToday, international students represent the largest migratory flow in Quebec. The international scientific literature on their migratory experience has been developed significantly, but their migratory paths remain poorly documented, as well as the factors that influence their retention. In this doctoral research we unpack such experiences, through the study of Maghrebi international students in Montreal.
\nOn one hand, we highlight the contribution of multidimensional analysis of migratory experiences in migrant-receiving cities. On the other, we bring an urban perspective to the theory of migratory careers.

\nMethodology: Our empirical material consists of 45 individual, semi-structured interviews conducted with 15 new Maghrebi international students in Montreal. We met each of them 3 times at 6-month intervals. We also used mind maps during the interviews to better understand their migratory experiences.
\nResults: This thesis focuses on the urban experience of Maghrebi international students in Montreal. By analyzing their daily lives in the city, we identified their mobility patterns and the geography of the spaces they appropriated throughout the 12 months of our fieldwork. Highly mobile and hyper-mobile students explored the city and appropriated its spaces. They thus built a larger spatial capital than moderately mobile students and sedentary ones. From this classification, we proposed a process for constructing a feeling of home in a host city. We diagnosed a duplication in the feeling of home among students who had spatial capital and urban mobility. These students came to feel at home in both their city of origin and the migration city. Subsequently, by integrating the relationship to the city and the feeling of home among student migrants, we theorise multiple trajectories for migratory careers: 1) anchoring in Montréal, 2) mobility for anchoring, 3) return to the “Bled”, 3) inter/national mobility, and 4) floating.
\nThese profiles give us a better understanding of the urban experience of Maghrebi students in Montreal and their retention.
