La percezione odierna colloca il maschile, inteso come categoria discorsiva, in costante oscillazione tra uno stato di crisi, che mette in discussione il concetto di norma egemonica, e una tendenza che reitera le strutture patriarcali. Tale movimento, che prelude a una de/costruzione del maschile, trova riscontro nel contesto culturale della Germania degli anni che comprendono l’Età guglielmina, la Grande guerra fino alla Repubblica di Weimar. \nPartendo da tale presupposto e mantenendo sempre attiva una prospettiva contemporanea che risponda alla domanda “perché oggi parliamo tanto di mascolinità?”, il volume si configura come dialogo tra le riflessioni scientifiche contemporanee e l’orizzonte culturale tedesco a cavallo tra Ottocento e Novecento, con l’obiettivo di creare un inventario che racchiuda le declinazioni linguistiche, artistiche e storico-letterarie delle Männlichkeit/en.
