A análise de dados de sísmica multicanal 2D evidenciou que depósitos de transporte de massa são elementos recorrentes na coluna estratigráfica da Bacia da Foz do Amazonas. Na área do Leque do Amazonas, um sistema extensivo-compressivo interligado desliza sobre níveis de destacamento basais, formando cinturões gravitacionais de dobramento e cavalgamento de escala regional. Escarpas de falha e soerguimentos de fundo associados (de até 500 m de altura) induzem o disparo de transporte de massa da ordem 200-300 m de espessura, envolvendo áreas de cerca de 10(4) km². Neste estudo também foi mapeada a ocorrência de espessos megadeslizamentos nas porções de talude íngreme a NW e a SE do Leque do Amazonas. Os megadeslizamentos remobilizam espessas séries sedimentares de milhares de km²: o Megadeslizamento Pará-Maranhão (até 1000 m de espessura) localiza-se a SE do leque, se estende à Bacia do Pará-Maranhão, ocupando uma área de aproximadamente 90.000 km²; a NW do leque, o Complexo de Megadeslizamentos Amapá consiste numa série de megadeslizamentos (espessuras entre 300-700 m), formando uma espessa coluna sedimentar alóctone, de aproximadamente 80.000 km². No contexto destes megadeslizamentos, a instabilidade gravitacional pode ter sido criada pelo aumento da pressão intersticial, como indicada por atributos sísmicos das superfícies basais dos deslizamentos, caracterizados por sinais sísmicos de polaridade negativa.
