Abstract
Resum: Fins ara, s'ha estudiat poc l'origen de les diferents parròquies que sorgiren dins l'àrea d'influència de l'antiga Aquae Calidae i, sovint, les conclusions a què han arribat diversos autors han estat fragmentades i, algunes vegades fins i tot, contradictòries.Aquest petit estudi pretén agrupar les noticies que han anat citat diversos autors, sobretot en estudis comarcals, i que ens permeten acostar-nos una mica més els antics límits de la parròquia i de les que se'n segregaren.Així mateix, l'advocació i ubicació del temple primitiu també ha estat molt discutida; estava dedicada a Santa Maria, a Sant Esteve o tenia una doble advocació?el temple primigeni es trobava a l'interior de la vila o als afores, en el mateix lloc on es troba ara?La relectura de les poques notícies que coneixem ens porta a formular una nova hipòtesi en què trobem alguns paral•lelismes amb els primers temps del cristianisme de la propera Gerunda on, durant un temps, dues esglésies compartiren parroquialitat.
