Abstract
À ses débuts, tout journaliste s'interroge sur l'origine des règles tacites qu'on lui transmet, sur la foi de la tradition et de l'usage qui gouvernent l'exercice de la profession. À défaut de recevoir une formation en éthique, c'est généralement par l'expérience qu'on pourra trouver réponse à ces questions. Ce livre vient combler une lacune en offrant, pour la première fois, une étude approfondie sur l'éthique de l'information dans une perspective théorique, et ce, à partir du cas québécois. Après un survol des fondements philosophiques et juridiques, Armande Saint-Jean présente l'histoire sociale du journalisme au Québec de 1960 à 2001 ainsi que les pratiques qui ont jalonné la profession au cours de cette période. Elle propose ensuite une théorie des glissements comme modèle interprétatif de l'évolution de l'éthique de l'information. Avec ses 25 ans de pratique en journalisme, auxquels s'ajoutent de nombreuses années de recherches universitaires, Armande Saint-Jean jouit d'une perspective unique sur la scène médiatique. Elle offre un livre clair qui s'adresse autant aux journalistes et professionnels des médias qu'aux étudiants et chercheurs en communications publiques d'ici et d'ailleurs.
