Abstract
This wooden propellor vessel was built by John B. Martel in 1887 at Saugatuck, Michigan. Originally a steam barge in the lumber trade, she was rebuilt for the passenger trade after beging sold to Canadian parties in 1909, and renamed the "Alfred Clark." She was resold American in 1913 and renamed "Saugatuck." In 1909 she was rebuilt into an open excursion boat and ran from Chicago's Navy Pier to Lincoln Park. After being idle for two years in the North Branch River, she was taken out in Lake Michigan and scuttled on April 28, 1931.
