Abstract
Ha hajnali negyed háromkor csörög a telefon, az nem jelenthet jót. A harminchárom éves, egyedül élő Polly számára sajnos nem újdonság, hogy ilyenkor hívják. Őt ugyanis egy őrült zaklatja a szerelmével: ajándékokat küld, titokban lefényképezi, trágárságokat mond neki a telefonban. Ezen a hajnalon is Polly házának közelében ólálkodik, és rugós késsel a zsebében várja, hogy felszabaduljon a telefonfülke. Nem tudhatja, hogy onnan éppen az imádott Pollyját hívják. A vonal túlsó végén pedig Polly döbbenten mered a készülékre: ezt a hangot tizenhat évvel azelőtt hallotta utoljára.Akkoriban feminista-anarchista békeaktivista volt, és hozzá hasonló társnőivel egy egész éven keresztül az amerikai katonai támaszpont kerítésénél tüntetett. Szívügyekben sem akkor, sem később nem volt szerencsés: éppen az ellenségbe kellett halálosan beleszeretnie. A századosi rangban szolgáló Jack ugyanígy érzett iránta, boldoggá is tette szenvedélyes kapcsolatuk, számára azonban az első perctől kezdve fontosabb volt karrierje a hadseregben. Most négycsillagos tábornokként bukkan fel újra Polly életében. Az a néhány óra, ami ebből az éjszakából még hátravan, sok is, meg kevés is egy tisztázó beszélgetésre, főleg ha egy háborodott zaklató is folyton betolakszik a képbe. Egy biztos: reggelre sok minden megváltozik. A Pattogatott vérfürdő és a Halál egyenes adásban szerzőjétől most is pikáns, provokatív és szabad szájú regényt olvashatunk, nagy adag humorral és nem kevés izgalommal bolondítva. A tetejébe a történet olyan véres fordulattal zárul, amelyet a legtapasztaltabb krimiolvasók sem láthatnak előre.
