Abstract
The “Ashtabula” was built by Great Lakes Engineering Works of St. Clair, Michigan in 1906. She was owned by the Pennsylvania-Ontario Transportation Co. of Cleveland, Ohio, from 1906 until 1958. The propeller vessel was used as a car ferry between Ashtabula, Ohio and Port Burwell, Ontario, Canada. On September 18, 1958, the ship sunk after a collision with the “Ben Moreell” outside the Ashtabula harbor entrance. She was raised by McQueen Marine, Ltd., of Amherstburg, Ontario, and scrapped in the summer of 1959.
