Ce chapitre aborde la problématique de la transition énergétique et du changement climatique. Il s'agit essentiellement d'un chapitre d'application des chapitres précédents. Décrire les phénomènes associés au changement climatique est très complexe tant le climat fait intervenir plusieurs facteurs chimiques, biologiques et physiques. En 2021, le prix Nobel de Physique a d'ailleurs été attribué en partie à des experts de la question climatique : l'Américano-japonais Syukuro Manabe, et l'Allemand Klaus Hasselmann, "pour la modélisation physique du climat de la Terre, pour en avoir quantifié la variabilité et prédit de façon fiable le réchauffement climatique". A ce stade, l'objectif de ce chapitre est d'être capable d'effectuer des calculs par ordre de grandeur en lien avec la transition énergétique afin de pouvoir quantifier les phénomènes.
