Abstract
La iniciativa Promoción del turismo comunitario, cómo práctica de desarrollo local; en la Parroquia San Lucas-Cantón Loja, permitirá que los ingresos generados por la actividad turística, mejoren el bienestar de los habitantes de la parroquia además este tipo de promoción permitirá el fortalecimiento de las raíces ancestrales de pueblos milenarios, especialmente de la población indígena. Aproximadamente el 30 de la población del país pertenece a diferentes grupos indígenas. En la parte norte de la provincia de Loja está asentada desde hace siglos la Comunidad Saraguro, éste es uno de los grupos étnicos mejor organizados del Ecuador, con su propia cultura, lengua y costumbres sociales. En 1881, San Lucas fue declarada Parroquia de Loja y actualmente está compuesta por 6 barrios: San Lucas, Pichig, Acacana, Lancapac, Pueblo Viejo y Ciudadela. San Lucas tiene una superficie de 159 km2, equivale al 5,4 del total del cantón Loja. En Saraguro se encuentra la raza más pura de América. Según el Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (INEC, 2001), la Parroquia San Lucas cuenta con 4.296 habitantes, de los cuales el 67,50 corresponde a población indígena. El 47,65 de la población corresponde al género masculino y el 52,35 al femenino.
