Las universidades públicas enfrentan nuevos desafíos, debido a la importancia que ha adquirido la sociedad del conocimiento en la mayor parte de las actividades sociales y productivas, lo que lleva a la búsqueda de nuevas fórmulas dentro del campo educativo, que impliquen un conjunto de aprendizajes que incorporen, además de conocimientos, habilidades y actitudes que permitan expresar la capacidad desenvolverse en su entorno social y productivo característicos de la globalización.Es así como las universidades mexicanas se ven en la necesidad de ir evolucionando y realizar esfuerzos y acciones que buscan transformar las formas de organización académica y curricular. Para ello se han creado proyectos de trabajo como la Red de Estudios Sobre Instituciones Educativas 2012-2013 (RESIEDU), integrada por universidades de países como Argentina, Brasil, Canadá y México, uno de sus objetivos de la red es: Caracterizar el marco institucional y de política educativa que norma y orienta las actividades de producción de conocimiento de los académicos, en particular sus modos colectivos en las Universidades Públicas Estatales (UPEs). Para ello en México se inició un proyecto de investigación que da cuenta de los modos colectivos desde un enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo. En la presente comunicación se presentan resultados del enfoque cualitativo a través de la Técnica de Grupos Focales aplicados en 2013 a 28 integrantes de cuerpos académicos de dos universidades públicas mexicanas: Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas y de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo organizado en las siguientes temáticas: introducción, metodología empleada, resultados, conclusiones y bibliografía consultada. Summary: Public universities face new challenges, because of the importance the knowledge society has acquired in most of the social and productive activities, leading to the search for new formulas within the educational field, involving a set of learning that incorporate, in addition to knowledge, skills and attitudes to express the ability to function in their social and productive environment, characteristics of globalization. Thus Mexican universities are in the need to evolve and make efforts and actions that seek to transform the forms of academic and curricular organization. To this end, they have created work projects such as the Red de Estudios Sobre Instituciones Educativas 2012-2013 (RESIEDU), composed by universities from Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Mexico. The objective of the network is: Characterize the institutional framework and educational policy that regulates and guides the activities of production of academic knowledge, particularly its collective modes in State Public Universities (SPUs). For it in Mexico a research project that realizes collective modes from a quantitative and qualitative approach is being conducted. In this communication results of the qualitative approach are presented through the focus group technic applied in 2013 to 28 members of academic research groups of two Mexican public universities: Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas and Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo which is presented in the following order: introduction, method, results, conclusions and bibliography.Keywords: Collective modes. Knowledge production Resumo: As universidades públicas enfrentam novos desafios, devido à importância que a sociedade do conhecimento tem adquirido na maioria das atividades sociais e produtivas, levando à busca de novas fórmulas dentro do campo educacional, envolvendo um conjunto de aprendizagens que incorporam, além de conhecimentos, habilidades e as atitudes para expressar a capacidade de funcionar no seu ambiente social e produtivo, características da globalização. Assim, as universidades mexicanas veem a necessidade de evoluir e fazer esforços e ações que buscam transformar as formas de organização acadêmica e curricular.
