Abstract
"Samson" was a Canadian tug built at St. Catherine's, Ontario in 1864. She was of 181 gross tons. In 1865, she burned at Bar Point in Lake Erie. Rebuilt at Detroit, Michigan the following year, she remained under ownership there until 1875. She was then purchased by C. E. Benham of Cleveland, Ohio who owned her until 1887. From 1895 to 1905, the Samson was owned by C. S. Morris, her final owner. She was dismantled in 1905. The Samsonâ s engine was placed into a new tug, the "Charles S. Osborn." These early powerful tugs towed as many as five or six schooners in the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers.
