La notice d'un médicament est le seul lien direct entre l'industriel et les patients et représente la source principale d'information, reflet de l'Autorisation de Mise sur le Marché (AMM). En France, la notice est très réglementée. Elle répond à des exigences européennes et nationales pour un bon usage du médicament. Les associations internationales de patients sont très actives et font pression pour avoir des notices accessibles et de qualité. Le développement de notices plus lisibles et plus structurées répond donc également à un besoin politique de communication et de transparence. Les tests de lisibilité sont devenus obligatoires en octobre 2005 pour les procédures d'enregistrement européennes et en mai 2008 pour les renouvellements d'AMM en procédure nationale. La 1ère partie de cette thèse présente les textes réglementaires relatifs au contenu, à la mise en page des notices et aux tests de lisibilité. Dans le cadre d'une mission au sein de Sanofi Pasteur, j'ai suivi différents tests de lisibilité. Ces tests étant généralement réalisés par des sous-traitants spécialisés, la sélection de ces sous-traitants et les contraintes rencontrées sont décrites dans la seconde partie de cette thèse. Enfin, 2 cas pratiques de tests sont analysés dans la dernière partie ; les notices européennes sont ensuite comparées aux "notices" américaines et canadiennes, mettant ainsi en évidence le bénéfice des tests de lisibilité en Europe.
